Current Ongoing Projects

The Organisation has four projects on hand which are being carried out in fulfillment of its mandate and they include

Project Background

The Project was designed as a result of a research conducted by the Organisation in 2013, which revealed that pupils and students were indulging in alcohol and other substances abuse. The research paper and the Project Document were sent to the Ghana Education Service (GES) for clearance to enable the Organisation to extend its activities into schools to help reverse the trend. Clearance was secured up to the pre-tertiary level.

Project Activities

The Project Activities are of two kinds which are; the General Activities which involves all schools in Ghana up to the pre-tertiary level where Blue Cross branches across the country could plan an extend their activities there. The other is the Specific Activities which is the one designed specifically for the Senior High Schools where the issue is found to be very challenging.

Project Activities for Senior High Schools

The activities here involve the education of the general student population of the schools visited, on the dangerous effects of alcohol and other psychoactive substances abuse, and the formation of clubs to sustain the education. The Club Members are used to rope in their peers as well as for fishing out addicts among them for help. This Project has been successfully piloted in two Senior High Schools in Accra – the Odorgonno Senior High and the Osu Presby Senior High. It is now at the roll-out stage and its Funding Proposal Documents are ready for sponsorships. Individuals and Organisations may sponsor schools of their choice.

Project Background

This Project has been introduced by the International Blue Cross as a way of helping out drug addicts. The IBC has trained Volunteers and has also sponsored the pilot phase, which is on-going at Gbawe in the Weija Gbawe Municipality in Accra.

Project Activities

The Project is publicized in the vicinity where a proposed Self Help Group is planned to be set up. Clients who are drug addicts enlist or be enlisted by their relations. These Clients are put together in group of identical cases and taken through regular meeting of studies, engagements and sharing of experiences supervised by the trained Volunteers. There are materials like the 12 Steps to Recovery and others that are used to help them out of addiction. Funding Proposal Documents are also available for sponsorships. Individuals and Organisations may sponsor groups at places of their choice.

Project Background

The activity of counselling and rehabilitation is key in the business of the Blue Cross Ghana. Currently, the Organisation refers such cases to sister Organisations for solution. It is against this backdrop that, a 57 acre land has been secured at Akyem Kwabeng in the Eastern Region for the construction of a modern multi-purpose Centre.

Project Activities

When the Centre becomes operational, Counselling and Rehabilitation activities of the Organisation would be enhanced. The Life-skills Training programmes for pupils and students who drop out of school due to alcohol and other substances abuse would be carried out effectively. Project Funding Proposal are being done for sponsorships.

Project Background

The Bawku Blue Cross House was put up as a Recreation Centre by one of the visiting partners of the Blue Cross in the 1970s. She used the place to engage the youth of Bawku in order to restrain them from taking to alcohol and other substances abuse. The facility was later turned into a guest house to fetch money for the activities of the Organisation.

The Guest House is currently in a deplorable state and its rehabilitation has started to get it back on stream to rake in funds to support the activities of the Organisation. Any support in this regard is highly welcome. Donors are hereby called upon and encouraged to sponsor any of the above projects towards the progress of the Organisation, the benefit of all and to the glory of God!
